MFA Year Three

Here goes my final year of graduate school!   Playing Phaeton, Silenus, Hades and many others in a movement-based METAMORPHOSES by Mary Zimmerman.  Then playing a lead role in the California premiere of Naomi Wallace's new play THE LIQUID PLAIN.

In between, will be taking in-depth classes on the rapier, voiceover, solo performance, Michael Chekhov characterization work, more acting for camera, more contact-improv, more aikido, more singing, as well as perfecting an array of dialects from Irish to Norwegian!

Training: Year Two

Second year at UC Irvine has commenced, and I have a truly fantastic season: Monroe in BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON (my first rock musical), Jaques in AS YOU LIKE IT, and a dream role-- Louis in ANGELS IN AMERICA: MILLENNIUM APPROACHES.  Plus planned independent projects of OLEANNA, THE TURN OF THE SCREW, and TAPE!

Meanwhile, this is a *packed year*.  We begin studying Styles (Restoration, Shaw, Chekhov, Moliere, Hyper-Theatre, and of course lots of Shakespeare!), as well as Acting for Camera, Clowning, more Singing, Dialects, Vocal Extremes, Musical Theater Movement, Period Dance, Audition Skills, Hand-to-Hand Combat, and Aikido!!!

Challenged, Exhausted, Exhilarated

What a life-altering first year-- now proficient in Fitzmaurice voicework, plus contact-improv and Loui Movement Technique, have mastered the international phonetic alphabet, studied mask & commedia dell'arte, script analysis, singing, avant garde techniques, ballet, and of course have had simply phenomenal acting classes.

Also got to appear in Durrenmatt's THE VISIT, Leslye Headland's BACHELORETTE, Itamar Moses' AUTHORIAL INTENT, an original radio play, an intense movement-theatre adaptation of Par Lagerkvist's novel THE DWARF, and a radical reimagining of Euripides' TROJAN WOMEN directed by Mihai Măniuțiu--the acclaimed head of the Romanian national theater.
